Business Review August 2019

New Beginnings

Tomorrow will be the first day of spring (well, here in Australia anyway)… That is significant as it symbolises new beginnings. It has been almost three months since I made the public declaration to my friends and family on Facebook that I was going to shake things up and try something new in my life (I’ve added the post below, so scroll down if you would like to read it). For me, it was about putting my intention out there into the world, to make myself accountable and give me extra incentive and drive to succeed.

For me, it was about creating something that I could call my own and make it into a business. If I can somehow monetise what some people might call a ‘hobby’ (as my accountant did…); I would be creating a very happy and fulfilled life for myself. People are out there doing what they love and are being successful at it ALL THE TIME! Why should I be any different?

So, what does this ‘shake up’ look like? Well, I’ve started a blog…

Yeah... Umm... ok...

Duh! Obviously… So… drumroll…

What my ultimate goal is, is to be blogging and running my website full time. Why blogging? I consider writing to be a strength and I can utilise that strength to share my knowledge and experience through informative articles, recipes and reviews. Underpinning this are my overall work/life goals:

I am under no disillusions that it will be quick or easy (that has certainly become apparent). It will require a lot of time, effort and energy (#WordPress… I’m looking at you… PS. I love you… #promise). It will require a lot of trial and error. And it will require the confidence in my skills and ability that I have the potential to succeed.

I am only at the beginning of my journey… and I am certainly not rolling in the money. I have no issues being very open and honest about that… I also know that it will be a marathon and not a sprint. I am extremely lucky to have a very supportive husband who works full time and also has a second job that he works on a casual basis. It is also likely that I will return to teaching next school term for at least one day per week, for an extra income boost.

Yeah... Umm... So why are you telling me this?

Why am I even bothering to share all this ‘behind the scenes’ information with you? Why am I not just ‘blogging away’ and only sharing the good stuff? Well, for a few reasons. Firstly, you just never know who will stumble across my little ol’ blog and become inspired to shake up their own life, follow their dreams and do what they love to do. That person might even be you! That dream might not look even remotely like mine; it doesn’t have to. It’s the underlying principle that my message has, that might resonate with you.

Secondly, I do A LOT of research. It’s how I roll. Over the last few months I have spent countless hours doing webinars or online courses (mostly during bubba’s nap times and also during the wee hours of the morning while the rest of the family is asleep). I have sifted through a lot of sh*t. I’m even multitasking as I write this post, with some on-point YouTube clips playing in the background! For those who are interested, I will be saving you a lot of time and energy by sharing the best of the best of what I’ve found. I’m happy to let you in on the resources and programs that I have found most helpful, which in turn, might help you also.

Thirdly, I’m also going to let you in on the financials… eeek! I can’t believe I just said that… I’m going to talk totally taboo and let you know how much I’m money I’m making… umm… when I start making it… #awkward. Might take a few months, might take a few years…. Next business review update I might come to you with a totally bruised and battered ego… tail between my legs… But… people make money out of this blogging gig and I’m going to be one of them! #goals. I don’t have anything for you right now… I literally just decided this… I need to get my receipts in order… #truth.

While I’d love to ‘get rich quick’, I know those schemes don’t work. So, I’m in it for the long haul! Maybe you are too? Maybe that’s why you’re still reading!

I really do appreciate the fact that you’ve taken the time to read my article. If you’d like to keep following my journey, or are interested in any of the other topics I cover on my blog, I’d love for you to subscribe by filling out your details below and I can keep you updated with what’s going on! #subscribenow #nopressure

PS. It might be time for me to get a new accountant… One that shares my vision and is supportive of a mumpreneur following her dreams! What do you think?

  1. Inspirational Diana! My son is doing something similar, but different, but totally has your three end game goals. If you get a chance check out Nomad Millionaire on YouTube. Myles went to school with my son and has some great insights into his journey to get where you want to go. Wishing you all the best!!

    1. Thanks Sue 🙂 I certainly will check Nomad Millionaire out! It certainly helps to learn some pointers from someone who’s done it before and been successful.

    1. It’s all part and parcel (the highs and lows) – but if I stick at it I do believe that I can succeed! Time will tell!
